Janet Napolitano, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), today announced an eighteen (18) month extension of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for eligible nationals of El Salvador, beginning September 10, 2013, and ending on March 9, 2015. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCSIS) have created a 60-day re-registration period running from May 30, 2013, through July 29, 2013, for current Salvadoran beneficiaries seeking to extend their TPS status by applying for a new employment authorization document (EAD) with an expiration date of March 9, 2015. Some re-registrants may not receive their new EADs until after their current EAD expires, therefore, USCIS is automatically extending current TPS El Salvador EADs that have a September 9, 2013 expiration date, for an additional six months with a new expiration date of March 9, 2014.
Current TPS beneficiaries must complete and submit Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status, and Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, in order to be eligible for the extended Temporary Protected Status. Re-registrants are not required to pay the Form I-821 application fee, but are required to submit the biometric services fee, or a fee waiver request, if they are fourteen (14) years or older. Applicants are also required to submit the Form I-765 application fee, or file for a fee waiver request. TPS applicants may request that USCIS waive any or all the fees by filing a Form I-912, Request for Fee Waiver, or by submitting a personal letter requesting these fees be waived.
