Georgia Construction Company Faces $228,300 Fine For I-9 Violations

Georgia Construction Company, M&D Masonry, was recently fined $228,300 for violations on 339 I-9 Forms out of the 342 they audited in May, 2010. Violations included 252 for uncompleted I-9 Forms and 87 violations for failure to provide I-9 Forms.

Although fines are normally set at a standard rate, several factors went into the decision to charge M&D Masonry $650 per Count I Violation and $750 per Count II Violation (failure to provide I-9 Form).

According to USCIS, fines range from a maximum penalty of $3,200 (per violation) for a first offense, a maximum penalty of $6,500 (per violation) for a second offense, and  a maximum penalty of $16,000 (per violation) for a third offense. http://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/penalties
