DHS Rejects California's Unauthorized Immigrant Driver's License

Santa Ana, California -
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has rejected the design for a special California Driver’s License that unauthorized immigrants are able to begin applying for in January 2015. DHS explained that the design does not comply with the Federal Real ID Act. Some immigrant advocates are concerned that discrimination will occur if these IDs do not look enough like California’s current Driver’s Licenses.
California is currently one of nearly a dozen states that have enacted laws to issue Driver's Licenses for unauthorized immigrants in the United States.  The law was passed last year in California with the hopes of setting an example for other states to follow, but the different lettering and notice on the card stating it cannot be used as federal identification on the back were reasons why it was rejected.  California has been working to comply with the REAL ID Act due to Federal officials planning to enforce the law in phases.
Contact Form I-9 Compliance, LLC at 1.866.359.4949 to learn more about the REAL ID Act or State-specific ID Cards.

Georgia Construction Company Faces $228,300 Fine For I-9 Violations

Georgia Construction Company, M&D Masonry, was recently fined $228,300 for violations on 339 I-9 Forms out of the 342 they audited in May, 2010. Violations included 252 for uncompleted I-9 Forms and 87 violations for failure to provide I-9 Forms.

According to USCIS, fines range from a maximum penalty of $3,200 (per violation) for a first offense, a maximum penalty of $6,500 (per violation) for a second offense, and  a maximum penalty of $16,000 (per violation) for a third offense. http://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/penalties
